Miss India-Canada 2011 |¬†Akhina was crowned Miss India Canada 2011 in July, attended high school in¬†Brampton. Akhina considers her Bharathanatyam Arangetram to be her greatest achievement, a test of perseverance that was over a decade in the making. She believes in a multi-faceted approach to childhood development, which she was blessed to have and which she believes is what opens doors for children to realize both their dreams and desires. One of her primary ambitions is to use this platform to create an affirmative impact on the youth of today. DPCDSB Student Trustee¬†| Aian¬†is a grade 12 student at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School in Brampton. Aian is a founding member of the High School Green Club Council, an environmental youth group with representation from Brampton secondary schools. He is a volunteer journalist for the Toronto Star and has written articles on how students can effect positive change in their own schools. Aian serves as the Northern Student Trustee for the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and is excited to implement new environmental initivatives in the board and province. SoJo Chief Catalyst |¬†Kanika is the Chief Catalyst at SoJo, an innovative online learning tool that helps youth passionate about social change to accelerate their ideas and initiate social ventures. Highly engaged in civic issues and community development, Kanika has worked with the United Nations Development Programme, Canadian International Development Agency, Canadian House of Commons, grassroots NGOs in West Africa and India. Prior to SoJo, Kanika founded Nukoko a Canadian nonprofit which sends over 600 girls to school in west Africa annually. Kanika has represented Canada on official State Visits to several African countries engaging on topics of youth entrepreneurship, leadership and education.
